The anthropic principle

Consider now the probability that our Universe — the one we inhabit — has a set of constants very similar to the ones we observe. Take a moment to ponder this over. This is not just a probability, but indeed a certainty. In fact, were it not so, we would not exist. This is the essence of the anthropic principle: we observe things as they are because, if they were any different, we would not be here to observe them.
